South Coast Community Chorale brings Christmas concert to Fall River

South Coast Community Chorale will present its annual Christmas concert Sunday, Dec. 16, 3 p.m., at Good Shepherd Parish, 1598 South Main St., Fall River. The concert will feature Mozart's "Missa Brevis in F Major," Haydn's "Te Deum," "A Pentatonix Christmas,"John Rutter's "Christ is the Morning Star," the "Hallelujah" chorus and many other holiday selections.

Youth basketball coach gets prison for molesting player

A former youth basketball coach from Massachusetts has been sentenced to prison for up to seven years after pleading guilty to sexually assaulting a player. The Herald News reports that 37-year-old Brandon Rivera, of Fall River, was sentenced last week to five to seven years behind bars and eight years of probation.

To date, Donald A. Brisson of Fall River, the family's attorney, said he has not seen the video or been given a copy.

A city man is being held without bail in connection to a Nov. 13 crash that claimed the life of a Dartmouth man, who just weeks earlier, had provided medical aid to a Fall River shooting victim, court records say. Justin M. Castro, 27, of 67 Taber St. is charged with manslaughter while operating under the influence of alcohol, and motor vehicle homicide while operating under the influence of alcohol, according to records in New Bedford District Court.

Diman School Committee votes not to renew superintendent's contract

At a Thursday meeting, the Greater Fall River Vocational School District Committee voted 5-1 in favor of not renewing Aubin's contract, which expires June 30. Asked after the meeting why he voted against renewing Aubin's contract, School Committee Chairman Paul Jennings of Westport provided a printed statement labeled "for press." "The Committee felt that a change is necessary at this time as we move forward with the many projects that are currently ongoing," the statement read.
