Portland cheerleader picked to perform in London's New Year's Day parade

The sophomore captain of Deering High School's cheering team is likely the first cheerleader from Maine's largest city ever picked to perform in London's New year's Day Parade. Kassidy Plummer will be one of about 1,000 American high school cheerleaders performing along the parade route, where more than 300,000 onlookers are expected to gather.

Lobster restaurant chain to build new Portland location

The Portland Press Herald reports Luke Holden, founder of the Luke's Lobster, plans to build a 200-seat restaurant at Portland Pier. According to Holden, the restaurant will be the seafood chain's largest location.

In what has become a delightful Portland holiday tradition, the Good Theater presented its annual musical revue, created and directed by Brian P. Allen , starring an incandescent Valerie Perri , together with Daniel Patrick Smith and a fine ensemble of Maine talent. The program, which featured twenty-nine musical theatre classics as well as lesser-known songs of the 1980s, was woven together by Allen with his comprehensive knowledge of the repertoire and his customary wit and performed with relish and commitment by the entire ensemble.

Assaults in same neighborhood spur Portland police to warn residents

Portland police are asking residents of the Deering Highlands neighborhood to be cautious as officers investigate a pair of area attacks in which victims gave similar descriptions of their assailant. Around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, a Highland Street resident found a man trying to break into his home through a window, and the pair fought briefly before the intruder "fled" toward Brighton Avenue, police said Wednesday.
