Ricky Dunton showed up at the Eastside Acres Community Center at 127A Emery St. on Monday afternoon with a brand-new acoustic guitar. He had purchased the instrument at Tune Town in Wells as a gift to the Right Brain Club, which meets regularly at the center and provides its young members with opportunities to be creative and to develop their minds.

The city of Sanford's annual kickoff to the holiday season will return in a couple of weeks with festivities sure to put the community in the mood to celebrate. Keeping with tradition, the Holly Daze parade will start the fun on Friday, Dec. 7. The parade will begin at Dairy Queen on York Street and will proceed north on Main Street to Central Park in downtown Sanford at 5:30 p.m. As always, Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus will be in the parade, waving to boys and girls of all ages from a sleigh pulled by Belgian Meadows horses.
Nurse claims jail's health care provider fired her for raising safety concerns

A Sanford nurse is suing a health care company used by Maine prisons and jails for allegedly firing her for raising concerns about unsafe medical practices. Last summer, Correct Care Solutions dismissed Maureen Everett, ending her 12-year tenure working at the York County Jail, the nurse said in an October lawsuit.
FBI gang task force announces arrest of 'armed and dangerous' Maine fugitive

The FBI's Southern Maine Gang Task Force has announced the arrest of a fugitive the group described as "armed and dangerous." On Oct. 23, Weldon was released on $10,000 bail, with the conditions that he must live at a sober house.
